1939, co-written by Jani Lauzon and Kaitlyn Riordan, explores the intricate dynamics of a fictional Residential School in Northern Ontario during King George VI's anticipated visit. An English teacher's vision for a Shakespearean production faces upheaval as her Indigenous students draw connections between their lives and the play's themes. The piece, shaped by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's calls to action, features an ensemble cast including Brefny Caribou, Merewyn Comeau, and Richard Comeau, and is directed by Lauzon. This Toronto premiere runs from September 15 to October 6 at the Berkeley Street Theatre.
