Marina Bay Sands, Asia's most exciting entertainment destination, together with Base Entertainment, a specialist in the production and management of live entertainment properties and theatre operations, has today announced that the critically-acclaimed Broadway musical The Lion King will make its Southeast Asia debut in March 2011. Tickets for the musical are set to go on sale from October 2010 and rehearsals for full cast and crew are scheduled for January 2011.

Singapore will join other leading cities hosting THE LION KING including New York, London, Hamburg, Paris, Tokyo and Las Vegas, when the show is unveiled next year. The musical will duplicate the other productions performing around the globe with the same Broadway-quality standards, spectacular music, dance, sets and costumes that have made it a worldwide phenomenon. The production will feature a new company of performers auditioned around the world.

ABOUT THE LION KING
Julie Taymor's internationally acclaimed stage adaptation of Disney's 1994 animated film premiered on Broadway in November 1997, winning the Tony Award(r) for 'Best Musical' and since that time, the show has been seen by more than 50 million people around the world. In addition to
record-breaking productions in London and New York, THE LION KING can currently be seen in Paris, Tokyo, Hamburg, Las Vegas and on tour in North America.

The score features Elton John and Tim Rice's music from the animated film along with three original songs by John and Rice; additional musical material by South African Lebo M, Mark Mancina, Jay RifkinJulie Taymor and Hans Zimmer; and music from an album inspired by the animated film, "Rhythm of the Pride Lands," written by Lebo M, Mark Mancina and Hans Zimmer. The resulting sound of THE LION KING score is a fusion of Western popular music and the distinctive sounds and rhythms of Africa, embracing the Academy Award(r)-winning "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" and the haunting "Shadowlands." Director Julie Taymor became the first woman in Broadway history to win the Tony(r) Award for Best Director of a Musical. Taymor, along with Michael Curry, created
hundreds of masks and puppets for THE LION KING. Choreography is by Garth Fagan, scenic design is by Richard Hudson, costume design is by Julie Taymor and lighting design is by Donald Holder. The book has been adapted by Roger Allers, who co-directed the animated film and Irene Mecchi, who co-wrote the screenplay for THE LION KING.
